Eric Schmechel of Wisconsin joins GreenWay for a summer Internship

Eric & GreenWay pouch Woody. (Woody joined us as a foster dog from the local human society. He decided to stay.)
GreenWay is very pleased to have had intern Eric Schmechel of Green Bay, Wisconsin join us for June and July 2005. With an interest in Green development and pursuing a degree in Ecology at the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, Eric provided help in many tasks around GreenWay Neighborhood.
During his internship, Eric participated in landscape design and maintenance and helped to build homes at GreenWay. He learned to operate many pieces of heavy equipment including a tractor, front end loader, bush hog, and Bobcat.
We appreciate Eric working with us for the Summer. As a sign of appreciation, GreenWay resident Patricia Foreman and Eric planted a Plum Tree on the grounds at GreenWay. Best wishes to Eric!

Goats at GreenWay
Sennan Buck visits GreenWay Does. As part of a bredding experiment we crossed a registered Sennan buck (dairy breed) wiht our purebread boar (meat goats) to produce fast growing kids and better muscled milk producing does.
The goats are very helpful around allocated parts of the subdivision and within the forest, as they help to keep the underbrush cleared. Kids arrived August 2006.

Adult Sized Swing Set

.• October 2003. Adult sized swingset lets kids of all ages swing towards the Blue Ridge parkway. The play area is close to the common house and plans are to include a picnic pavilion, grill and fenced in play yard safe for small kids.
Hardwood Trees Planted
• 150 Hardwood trees planted with help from a grant from the Forestry Incentive Program. Pat and Andy planted trees on the hillsides and to enhance the riparian buffer along Jolly Creek. The 4' tubes and mats are from Conservation Services. Species of trees included white ash, cypress, various oaks (pin, northern red, white and willow), maples and fruit trees. These trees will not only serve the next generations, but also add intrinsic value to the land and resale value of the homes. They are planted in 4' tubes for deer protection.

1993 Kildeer Successfully Hatch
• Killdeer successfully hatches eggs on Wing Walker Way. It is amazing the Killdeer birds thrive here. This mother built her nest in the drive way of Wing Walker where construction trucks are in and out daily. We put some stakes in front of the next to keep the eggs from being run over. Photo taken by Cindy Pulliam on the day they signed the contract to buy Breezy Cottage - lot 1. Can you see the eggs under the mother killdeer - they are camouflaged to the gravel almost perfectly.
